Meet Lynn from Hammy Hill

Also, her eye opening experience of moving from New South Wales to Hamilton Hill in WA.

Moving from New South Wales to Western Australia about four years ago, Lynn had great expectations for Perth as a city to settle into. She actually had her honeymoon in Perth. Not really knowing the city, she and her husband moved to Hamilton Hill, which is a metro suburb, south-west of the CBD. Upon moving to Hamilton Hill, the optimism for a new city began to change. Lynn says “If I had known about Hamilton Hill before moving here, I definitely wouldn’t have moved, I’ve been here for four years and we’ll be moving back to the eastern states at the end of the year”.

Not long after moving to Hamilton Hill, Lynn was told by the Police that this particular part of Hamilton Hill she had moved to had a high crime rate. Not all of Hamilton Hill had crime but Lynn was told she was living in the “Golden Triangle” area of the suburb. “There are many drug dealers in this area of Hamilton Hill” she explains, “With Police and air patrols on a regular basis”. Lynn tells me it’s like the Bronx.

She tells me “As a result of the drug dealers, the crime rate is very high, cars and houses are broken into often.” Most people have bought big dogs and CCTV as a deterrent to the excessive crime that occurs she points out.

“If I had known about Saven, I would have used the app prior to moving here, to get an idea about crime in this area,” Lynn says.

The story of the ‘infamous’ scooter is a unique one. It was chained up in a Steven’s Street property in Fremantle. The thieves have lifted the scooter over a 6-foot gate and made away with it. The owner shared the below post about his stolen scooter multiple times and Lynn kept seeing the scooter pop up on Saven.

Lynn actually thought to herself “Come on, I want to see something different on Saven other than this scooter lol” One day she was out walking the dog with her husband. On the way back from the walk, they saw this scooter, thrashed and in the bushes in Hamilton Hill. Lynn said to her husband “That brand of scooter looks familiar”, her husband laughed it off. Lynn said, “I definitely know that brand from somewhere!” Lynn then opened up the Saven app and there it was before her eyes, the scooter that had been stolen from Fremantle and had ended up in Hamilton Hill. Lynn then compared the image on Saven to the scooter, then proceeded to reach out to the owner and let them know that she had found it.

Lynn never managed to meet the owner and only corresponded over text message after first engaging on the Saven app. Lynn recalls, “After messaging the owner, by the afternoon I had checked where the scooter had been and it was gone”. The owner was very thankful.

Lynn and I are aware that this is a rare situation. We both also appreciate that with Lynn’s intuition and relevant information, getting this stolen scooter back to its owner was possible with Saven. “Filtering by location and setting your radius is really helpful,” Lynn says, “Saven just needs to keep growing and getting more and more users posting”.
