Rario Stars set to shine for Team India in Asia Cup

Asia Cup is returning to the fore after four years later this month. The last edition was held back in 2018 with India lifting the trophy. Like the previous season, UAE will host this T20 event, featuring six top Asian teams. Although India is largely considered the favourite to win the tournament, other teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan won’t be easy to go past.

All the teams would come to the event with their strongest possible squads, meaning no team could be taken lightly. Knowing what is on the line, India recently announced a full-strength squad for Asia Cup. However, injuries to the fast-bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel came as a setback. Their inclusion would have made the bowling department look much stronger.

1: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant, India’s flamboyant wicket-keeper batter, has been in tremendous form recently, especially in Test and ODI cricket. But considering his potential, the left-handed batter hasn’t yet done well enough in the shortest format of the game. There is no doubt about his potential as he can play a wide range of shots all around the ground.

With scores of 44, 33* and 24 in his last three T20I innings against West Indies, one could feel that a big knock from him is around the corner. Asia Cup would be a great opportunity for the youngster to prove his mettle in T20Is as well.

2: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik is another wicket-keeper batter but he plays an entirely different role in the team. His job is to finish the inning– be it while posting or chasing a total. It is probably the toughest task batting-wise but the experienced campaigner makes it look so easy every time he walks to bat.

He has been proving how good he is irrespective of his age in almost every game. He would be aiming to continue his good touch with the bat and win India as many matches as he could down the order.

3: Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is without a doubt going to be India’s mainstay in the bowling department in this Asia Cup. He brings years of experience to the table and with India having a rather young bowling attack, his role becomes more important. India would want him to take wickets with the new ball up front and bowl those vital death overs as well.

The right-arm seamer has been bowling really well lately. His economy rate of 6.93 in T20Is is just fabulous, to say the least. He doesn’t just keep it tight but is equally capable of taking wickets in all phases of the game.

Here’s India’s full squad: Rohit Sharma ©, KL Rahul (VC), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan. (Standbys: Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel).
