The disappearance last year of a Pearl Harbor Navy SEAL who was spearfishing with other unit members on a training free dive off Kaena Point was accompanied by sweeping procedural and safety…
The succulent pieces of hot, flavourful juicy chicken curry awaited me,
I was ready with the bread in one hand, almost on the verge of diving into,
the awesomeness of the onion and garlic infused gravy,
but just then there was a sudden familiar song around my ears,
which then flowed towards the tumbler containing the chicken,
and started buzzing over it, frenzied buzz, non-stop for a few seconds,
hovering round and round over the tumbler, with a tinge of wish,
to dive into the curry, perhaps, but again afraid to hurt itself,
but couldn’t resist the smell.
A flap of the hand, pangs of hunger getting the better of me,
that persistent mosquito gave way, before being back the very next second,
another slight flap, go away and let me eat please,
no change, it didn’t budge, it didn’t care, came back again, more focussed,
ready to risk it all for a little taste of the deliciousness,
I wondered how good the curry might have been,
that even attracted a mosquito?
I literally begged it in my own language,
hoping against hope that it understands human language,
to let me eat, and I’ll leave a little curry at its disposal after I finish.
Voila.
It stopped hovering, probably understanding me,
or out of fear, maybe tiredness,
probably some distant smell of a better chicken curry,
managed to attract it,
so it flew away through the window,
towards that new smell which attracted it,
and I wished it the best,
and put forth all my concentration on the delicious chicken curry.
