Voting for Democrats is the conservative vote

As a conservative who has only ever registered as a Republican, I never thought I would see the day that Democrats are the conservative choice, but here we are.

The Constitution, our country’s defining document for which our entire government and society is based on, is a living and arguably perfect embodiment of The Enlightenment as captured by The Law of Nations. It serves as a self-correcting framework for our law and our processes for further refining our nation. As an American patriot, I will always side with defending The Constitution.

The GOP is now willfully and openly Party before Country. They reject the balances imposed by The Constitution, which is far more anti-conservative than a liberal ideology.

Mitch McConnell and the Senate have repeatedly and consistently demonstrated that process is to be avoided when possible to implant conservative ideology. Their stated goal was obstruction without prejudice during Obama’s tenure and judicial placement so far during Trump’s tenure. They are a rubber stamp machine rather than a system to vet. Don’t let McConnell fool you. Most SCOTUS nominees in U.S. history have been rejected, and never has a nominee been ignored by the Senate for any where near so long as Judge Garland.

Paul Ryan has made significant strides in promoting bipartisanship in the House. He and others like him are derided whenever not GOP-aligned, and are being chased out in favor of those who are more exclusively aligned. Look at the House as a whole. Ninety five Republican representatives align with an ideology score of .8 or higher versus just 31 Democrats with a score of .2 or lower.

One of Trump’s signature accomplishments is bringing back taxable revenue from overseas safe havens. Did you know this was a copy of legislation that Obama put forth a few years prior? There were no different riders or additional terms, just different proposers. Republican lawmakers overwhelmingly aligned against it when Obama proposed it and for it when Trump proposed it. How can anyone argue or even believe that they are acting in the best interest of the country over that of their party? Whenever I bring it up, I’m called an Obama lover. I’m the guy who ditched his health insurance and paid $6000 in fees as a willful objection to Obama’s healthcare mandate I believe to be unconstitutional.

The Constitution set forth three branches of government to provide self-correcting checks and balances. The extreme party alignment and rejection of constitutional processes by the GOP has left us with two branches of government, the GOP and the DNC, with three mechanisms of power.

As a conservative, I hold The Constitution in the highest regard and therefore I reject the GOP and the toxic behaviors that their ideologies cannot excuse, even if I largely align with those ideologies. I hope some of you do as well.
