The Need For Holistic Education in Nigeria.

Many Nigerians today have more academic knowledge than the whole knowledge. We see many people doing well academically and can’t do so outside the box of reading. Also, lots of graduates are unable to get job, not because they didn’t have good grades. They lose these job opportunities because of their lack of communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

This situation happens because our educational system does not include all the things students genuinely need. Holistic education needs to be introduced so we can save a lot of generation from becoming failures. An education that involves learning all about the areas of human life. It includes not just academics, but also social, physical, psychology, emotional, mental and every other vital point of a human being.

The world will be a mess if there are people who don’t know how to relate with other people, who don’t know how to apply the academic knowledge into practical. Imagine a world where doctors can not relate freely with their patients or vice versa due to inability to express themselves, or where lawyers can not even defend their innocent clients. This is not because they don’t know what to say, but are afraid to express themselves due to lack of communication skills. A world where there is lack of interpersonal skilled people will be hostile and future generations will be greatly damaged.

A call to accept holistic education is a very urgent one Nigerians need to pick. We need to start introducing extracurricular activities among our students and help our future leaders to recognize the importance.

With this in mind, I believe our leaders can have a better understanding view of how important it is and start implementing these activities into each level of school.
