Writing on Medium Helped Me Become a Better YouTube Content Creator

Three(3) lessons learned that are actionable

Before I started writing on Medium, I had a YouTube channel getting decent views. Compared to recent, my YouTube channel is performing better.

What are some of the reasons for my channel’s better performance, you may ask?

Well! You see, before writing on Medium, I used to write long and drawn-out sentences. Which I am sure was tiring to read. Long and drawn-out sentences may reduce the impact of a message. Especially with online writing.

The YouTube description box allows content creators to add descriptions to their videos. These descriptions may serve as a summary that gets viewers to click.

Writing short, simple yet precise sentences has helped me convey my messages better.

Lesson 1:
Writing online is unlike writing in a book. Keep sentences short, simple, and precise. Don’t be scared to use full stops(.) to break complex sentences.

Titles are as important on YouTube as they are on Medium. They hook and sometimes entice an audience to click. ALL CAPS were my go-to format for my videos before I started writing on Medium.

Although, all caps are potent and work to get viewers to click on YouTube videos. They may come off as spammy and over-used. Medium helped me experiment with and adopt the AP(Associated Press Stylebook, 55th edition) title case style for my videos.

Lesson 2:
Titles can make or break a piece of content.

Speech is the most used form of communication when it comes to videos. Clearer speech holds an audience’s attention for a long time. And the intended information gets relayed. Writing on Medium has helped me to be concise with my words.

Lesson 3:
Clearer speech keeps the audience’s attention for long. And helps in the proper relay of information.
