Ideas for Camp NaNoWriMo

Should you decide to participate this year

Have you been wondering what project to work on at this special time of the year? Me too, which is why I wrote this article to serve as a good starting point for choosing an idea.

While NaNoWriMo is fairly easy to figure out because they tell you how to do it, Camp NaNoWriMo is more of a personal challenge. You are expected to come up with your own intentions for the month, and this can mean anything, from writing a poem a day to editing a manuscript or reaching a certain word count.

But this means camp is just like any other month when you set up goals, right? No. It’s still supposed to be a challenge, only a more accessible one. Its purpose is to gamify writing. That being said, I noticed how gamification becomes difficult for writers who already have an established routine and a handful of predetermined projects in progress.

In case you are more like me, then you can’t maintain a writing routine for too long; you need to keep things fresh. In this case, your camp problem is not so much How do I fit it in my schedule? but more How do I make it fun again?.

I needed some ideas for myself as well, so I came up with these.

This list is meant to be used as a reference for coming up with NaNoWriMo projects or personal challenges. I wrote it in an attempt to brainstorm my own plans for the upcoming event and I believe it helped, so I’m sharing it with you. I hope it comes in handy. Happy Camp NaNoWriMo, everyone!
