How to find your strenghts and how to master them

He works as team manager at Face2Face in Oslo. As a team leader, he is responsible for training, coaching and workshops to maintain the level of his 7 employees. This after only half a year in the job, with ambitions to take the role of sales manager.
Andreas has previously attended Army’s Compulsory School and worked as Sergeant in 2nd Battalion for 3 years. Something that has led to many experiences and experiences.

As a former sergeant, there was nothing that told Andreas that sales was what he was going to do.

“I did not know anything about sales.” Says Andres, and continues:

“I went through a self-analysis: What am I good at, what do I like to do, what gives me energy? These questions enabled me to connect my personality to a career and a job that suited me.”

Andreas says he wanted a job where he could be around other people.

“When I feel down, I want to surround myself around other people. This is my cure for negative feelings. When I was offered a job at Face2Face, this was not an obvious hit. Nevertheless, I believed in my ability to master it.”

Andreas says that with a job that fits our interests, the potential is unlimited. With interest comes drive. This applies regardless of which study you take or the job you have.

“The Army taught me how to find strengths and weaknesses with myself.”
Life in a uniform consists of constant trial and error, combined with the fact that feedback is provided. This made Andreas quickly get acquainted with new sides by himself.
“In addition, Andreas emphasizes the demands made on soldiers compared to civilians. “As a soldier, all you learn should be implemented into practice. The requirement for practical understanding is critical. In the civil society, if we had more emphasis on this, more people would have known about their strengths and weaknesses.

Andreas brought this lesson with him as he started selling, which quickly led to results for him.

He started his career by diving into new challenges, then he got feedback from more established workers which led to a fast learning curve. “I asked for advice and feedback on everything I did, until people were tired of talking to me. I became the most demanding employee, but also the one with the fastest growth,” says Andreas.

As leader of a sales team, Andreas notices how we as people react to adversity. Sales are challenging and it requires that one must handle our inner voice that appears after rejection.
“You’re not good enough, you’re not smart enough, you’re tired, go take a break.” These are common thoughts that sales staff get, but Andreas also says that this is something most people go through, regardless if their a salesman or not.

Andreas mentions these negative thoughts as ‘the enemy’. “In the Armed Forces, we spend a lot of time understanding the enemy and where he comes from, then setting a plan to beat him. We expect him to come and when he comes, we are ready.”
Andreas says this is a major aspect that is not addressed enough in our society. “We do not know our negative voice well enough or how to deal with it. This leads us to not exploit our potential as we are always stopped by our own inner voice.”

Knowing yourself is central to any career we choose. We also see that by mixing our natural forces with our interests we can reach far. As long as we are willing to challenge ourselves.

Ok, so what do we get from this?

Mission: A fun exercise here at the end. Draw a person on a paper and give him a name. This is your “enemy.” Note down all the negative thoughts that usually appear and use this to describe this person.
Each time you get a negative thought, you can see for yourself that the character that you have constructed is visiting. The negative thoughts are not us, but rather an “enemy” who works against us.
