Gap Year Day 87

Today is my birthday! So it is my first day at work where I’ll be able to do stuff like use knives, pruners, drive vehicles, etc! I had an awesome day at the farm. Everyone was super nice and wished me happy birthday, and they had a little gift and a card that people signed for me:) The gift was pretty funny — it was a plastic tool set for ages 3+ that said “things Wegmans would’ve let you use yesterday” and then they gave me a pair of scissors and a Swiss army knife for harvesting micros that said “things Wegmans hopefully approves for your use of today.” I enjoyed the humor and it was super nice of them to do something for me!

So I was on high tunnels team with Katie Lynn and we harvested micro greens! And I got to drive us up to the high tunnel on the gator!! It was really fun to finally be able to harvest the micros rather than do the cleaning or other tasks. I was definitely much slower than Katie Lynn, but I think I’ll get better with practice!

I got lots of very thoughtful bday texts too which made my day:) I was feeling the love for sure!

In the afternoon I switched to the veg team and packed beets for the rest of the day. I decided to still leave work at 3 so that I could get to the cottage, pack up, and go see Mom, Dad, and Tyler as soon as possible! I’m lucky to have had a beautiful, warm day that was nice and sunny.

It was great to see the fam (and Bodhi of course!) and Mom, Tyler and I went for a somewhat relaxing walk around the hood, despite the fact that I still managed to sweat. What was truly exceptional was the food that Mom (with dishwashing help from Dad & Tyler) made for my special day!! Oh my goodness was it scrumptious!! She made pasta with homemade meatballs (with ricotta and bacon in them!) and homemade tomato sauce that was cooked earlier this summer, in addition to an arugula salad. Everything was sooo yummy…the meatballs with the ricotta and sauce were so flavorful and slightly creamy:) Mom also made a “Heartbeet” chocolate cake using a Bon Apétit recipe upon my request…yes, it had beets (from the garden) in it! And although it didn’t want to stay together in one piece, the cake was absolutely incredible. I couldn’t stop oohing and ahhing as I enjoyed it with some vanilla ice cream. So a huge shoutout to a wonderful cook who I’m lucky to have as my maman!

I loved reading my birthday cards the fam wrote, as well as some great gifts. I am one lucky girl to have such awesome people in my life:) Another memorable birthday for the books!
